What to Do at Tha Tian Market?
Tha Tian Market is another riverside spot in Bangkok’s Old Town, just behind Wat Pho and not far from Tha Phra Chan. It used to be one of the busiest piers in the area, filled with local shops, dried seafood stalls, and steady crowds moving between the river and the temple. But after the recent renovations, it’s a lot quieter than it once was.
The original market building has been cleaned up and made more orderly, which some people appreciate, though it lost a bit of the gritty charm it once had. That said, there are still a few shops open inside, and you’ll find more action along the roadside leading up to the pier. There are a couple of well-known local restaurants around here that stay busy, especially at lunch.
I still like walking through Tha Tian — it’s less crowded than nearby spots, and the view of Wat Arun from the pier is always worth a pause. Boats come and go all day, and there’s something nice about standing there, watching the river move while the temples tower in the background. It may be quieter than before, but it still holds that Old Bangkok feel.
