Sala Rattanakosin Bangkok

Cosy Hotel on Bangkok Riverside

Sala Rattanakosin is a small hotel tucked into a narrow alley along the Chao Phraya River, just a few steps from Tha Tien Pier. Itโ€™s easy to miss from the street, but once inside, the setting is striking. The hotel is right across from Wat Arun, and almost every corner of the building seems designed to make the most of that view. Itโ€™s modern, clean, and feels a bit hiddenโ€”like a local secret, even though itโ€™s been open for years. The entrance is low-key, but the setting is one of the most memorable in Bangkok.

The Rooms

The rooms are simple and contemporary, with polished wood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows in the river-facing suites. These rooms offer uninterrupted views of Wat Arun, which are especially beautiful at night when the temple is fully lit. A few rooms even have a bathtub facing the window, which is great for travellers who enjoy a quiet evening in with something special to look at. The rooms at the back donโ€™t have views but are quieter and more affordable. Itโ€™s worth booking the river-facing rooms if youโ€™re visiting for the scenery.

The Restaurant

The hotelโ€™s main restaurant is on the ground floor, facing the river. It serves a mix of Thai and international dishes, and itโ€™s open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The indoor space is cosy, but the terrace tables are the highlight. From there, you sit just a few metres from the water, with Wat Arun directly in front. These tables are in high demand, especially around sunset and dinner, so booking in advance is strongly recommended if you want to sit outside.

Eagle Nest Rooftop Bar

Sala Rattanakosin Bangkok

Upstairs is Eagle Nest, a small rooftop bar on the 5th floor, which also faces the Temple of Dawn. Itโ€™s a relaxed placeโ€”more about the view than the cocktailsโ€”and it doesnโ€™t usually get crowded. Most people come here in the late afternoon or early evening, order a drink, and enjoy the view as the sun sets and the temple lights come on. The rooftop isnโ€™t huge, but thatโ€™s part of the charm. Itโ€™s peaceful, casual, and feels more like a hideaway than a party spot.

The Location

Sala Rattanakosin Bangkok

The location of Sala Rattanakosin is perfect for travellers who want to explore Bangkokโ€™s historical heart. Wat Pho is just behind the hotel, and the Grand Palace is a short walk away. You can also catch a ferry across the river to Wat Arun in just a few minutes. The area gets quiet at night, so itโ€™s not for those looking for nightlife, but for anyone interested in history, culture, and photography, itโ€™s one of the best places to stay in the city.
