Blue Elephant Bangkok is one of those restaurants we like to recommend when friends visit the city and want to experience Thai food in a more refined setting. We have been there a couple of times, and each visit was memorable for the right reasons. The restaurant is easy to spot, sitting in a beautiful old mansion on Sathorn Road, right across from the Surasak BTS station. The building itself is a piece of Bangkok history, and stepping inside always feels special.

When we bring friends here, we know the atmosphere will impress them before the food even arrives. The high ceilings, wooden floors, and classic decor give Blue Elephant Bangkok a sense of occasion, but it never feels too formal. It’s a place where you can relax and enjoy a good conversation, even if you’re celebrating something important.

The menu is quite extensive, with all the classic Thai dishes you expect, but also some creative recipes you won’t find in regular restaurants. We usually order a mix of starters to share, like the pomelo salad and crispy golden bags, before moving on to mains such as the massaman curry or the crab curry. The quality of ingredients is always high, and the presentation is careful without being over the top. One thing we appreciate is how the staff are happy to explain the dishes and recommend options, especially when our friends are new to Thai food.

Service at Blue Elephant Bangkok is friendly and professional. The staff pay attention to details, like changing plates between courses and making sure drinks are topped up. On our last visit, one of our friends was not dressed up, but the staff handled it with a smile and made everyone feel comfortable. These small touches make a difference and help us feel confident bringing guests here.

We also like that Blue Elephant offers Thai cooking classes during the day, which is a fun way to learn more about the cuisine and take home new skills. It’s something we often suggest to friends who want to go beyond just eating Thai food.

Blue Elephant Bangkok is not the cheapest Thai restaurant in the city, but for the quality of food, the historic setting, and the attentive service, we always feel it’s worth it when we want to show friends a side of Bangkok that’s a bit above average. And if your travels take you to Phuket, the sister restaurant there is just as impressive and worth a visit if you enjoy good food in a unique setting.

It’s located in the impressive Phra Pitak Chinpracha Mansion, a historic building with a lot of character and a large garden. The Phuket branch is known for its southern Thai cuisine and is often mentioned as one of the best places to eat in Phuket Old Town.
