A trendy community village in Ploenchit ✓
Velaa Sindhorn Village is a trendy and luxurious community village on Langsuan Road in Bangkok. Velaa is one of the luxury community malls built in this part of Bangkok, just next to the well-known Lumpini Park. Ploenchit is becoming increasingly posh, and what was rather the rundown part of this neighbourhood has become the most exclusive part of it.
Velaa Sindhorn Village mostly focuses on many upmarket and excellent restaurants. Velaa means ‘Time’ in Thai, which explains why the last ‘a’ of the name is not an accent but a letter aligned like the moving number of a mechanical clock.
The place is so popular that at least three restaurants require booking in advance: Vaso Spanish Tapas, Rongsi Potchana Thai Restaurant and Petits Plats French Restaurant.
The Restaurants
Rongsi Potchana
Rongsi Potchana is, without a doubt, our favourite restaurant in Velaa. The food is excellent, the atmosphere lively, the service is fast, always friendly, and efficient, and the price is good considering how expensive everything is in this village. For those in the know, Rongsi is part of a group of successful Thai restaurants, including Kub Kao Kap Pla. The restaurant has a garden area where pets are welcome.
Cuisine: North East Thai
Hours: 10 am – 10 pm
Price: reasonable
Pet friendly: yes
Reservations: recommended for dinner, especially during weekends
Lawoi’ Thai Izakaya
LAWOI’ is a new hidden gem in Bangkok, located on the lower floor of the popular Velaa on Langsuan Road, next to Villa Market. The concept of a Thai Izakaya was a pleasant surprise, as we didn’t know what to expect. The team recommended their signature dishes, and from the first bite, it was an eye-opener.
Cuisine: Thai Izakaya
Hours: 5 pm – 12 pm
Co Limited
Co Limited is a Thai restaurant known for its Thai street food with a focus on beef dishes. The menu offers a variety of tasty and well-prepared options. The restaurant features a pleasant atmosphere, including a patio area with live music on Thursday evenings. Co Limited is open daily, and reservations are recommended, especially for dinner on weekends. The combination of fresh ingredients, friendly service, and fair pricing makes it a popular dining spot.
Cuisine: Thai with a focus on beef
Hours: 11 am – 11 pm
Price: reasonable
Reservations: not necessary
Vaso Spanish Tapas Bar
Vaso is a popular upmarket restaurant where customers sit around two central counters in two adjacent rooms to enjoy excellent tapas. Despite the high prices, the restaurant is always full, and reservations are required. There is only one table of four if you prefer to sit separately. Note that you will be seated at the counter, and your neighbour will be seated very close to you, which is not always to everyone’s taste.
Cuisine: Spanish tapas
Hours: 12.30 pm – 3 pm, 5 pm, 12 am
Price: very high
Reservations: recommended and probably necessary on weekends
Petits Plats
Petits Plats is a trendy French restaurant serving excellent cuisine for lunch and dinner. The facade seems small, but the restaurant is larger than it appears outside. The high price and fun decorations make it a popular Instagrammers’ playground, and people come as much to enjoy the food as to take tons of selfies, which can be a little surprising sometimes.
Cuisine: French
Hours: 11 am – 11 pm
Price: very high
Reservations: recommended for dinner, especially during weekends
KURA Premium Yakiniku and Sushi
Kura is a popular Japanese yakiniku restaurant with a vast choice of dishes, including sushi, but the main reason people go there is always the ever-popular grill place in the middle of the table where you grill your meat, veggies or seafood. It brings the yakiniku atmosphere to Bangkok, and you could think you are in Japan, especially when the team greets incoming customers with a loud ‘Irashaimase!’ (welcome!). It’s fun, tastes good and is reasonably priced; it’s a good place to share with friends. It’s quite popular so consider booking to avoid waiting for a table.
Cuisine: Japanese Yakiniku
Address: Unit B104, Velaa Sindhorn Village, 87 Langsuan Rd, Bangkok 10330
Hours: 11 am – 11 pm
Phone: 084 105 6190

Hoppe Coffee House
Hoppe Coffeehouse at Velaa Sindhorn Village is one of our favorite spots for comfort food in Bangkok. Despite its modest size, with only a few tables inside and three outside, it offers a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The menu features a mix of Western and Thai dishes, all reasonably priced and consistently delicious. We often visit for their roasted chicken or creamy beef stew with rice, paired with a great selection of wines at fair prices. The friendly team always greets us with a smile, making every visit enjoyable. It’s a perfect place for casual dining in the city.
Cuisine: Western and Thai – Comfort food
Hours: 10 am – 10 pm
Phone: 099 442 1592
Price: reasonable
Reservations: usually always have tables available
Shabu Baru
Shabu Baru is the latest restaurant in the village. It serves the ever-popular shabu in individual pots placed around a central counter instead of the usual central cooking pot shared by up to four guests. The place is beautiful, but the price is a little high, especially for meat, to compete with other shabu around town. Good to know: the cheapest meat set is the best.
Cuisine: Japanese Shabu
Hours: 11.45 am – 9 pm
Price: High
Reservations: recommended
El Gaucho Langsuan
El Gaucho is well known in Bangkok as the main restaurant in Sukhumvit, next to Terminal 21 Shopping Mall. This new branch has only one vast room because of the high price. The choice of cuts is immense and maybe a bit intimidating at first, so if you are unfamiliar, don’t start with the most expensive meats; it can build up very fast. Side dishes are also surprisingly expensive.
Cuisine: Steakhouse
Hours: 11 am – 9 pm
Price: very high
Reservations: not necessary as the place is huge and not busy
Maison Saigon
Maison Saigon is a Vietnamese restaurant known for its authentic cuisine and stylish décor. The menu features traditional dishes like banh loc (shrimp dumplings), goi ngo sen (lotus root salad), bun thit nuong (noodles with roasted pork), pho, and desserts such as banh flan and uyen thy pudding. The restaurant highlights Vietnamese flavours with a French influence in some dishes.
Cuisine: Vietnamese
Hours: 11 am – 11 pm
Price: reasonable
Reservations: not necessary
Lim Lao Ngow x Cloud Dragon
Lim Lao Ngow x Cloud Dragon is a collaboration bringing together renowned fish ball noodle recipes from Lim Lao Ngow and a variety of Chinese dishes from Cloud Dragon. The menu includes premium offerings such as Abalone Noodles, which are available exclusively at this branch. Known for its attention to quality and flavour, the restaurant blends traditional recipes with a touch of modern sophistication.
Cuisine: Chinese Noodle Soup
Hours: 10 am – 7 pm
Price: reasonable
Reservations: not necessary
Cafe Kitsune
Note: Cafe Kitsune is permanently closed
Located in Velaa Sindhorn Village, Cafe Kitsuné Velaa is a chic cafe with a French-Japanese vibe. It has a modern minimalist design with an oval-shaped bar and comfy seating. They serve coffee, tea, pastries, and light bites. It’s a good spot for a relaxing afternoon or just a coffee break. Prices are on the high side.
Hours: 9 am – 9 pm
Shopping at Velaa
In addition to the many restaurants, visitors can enjoy a very large Villa Market supermarket, Mykita handmade designer eyewear from Berlin, a hairdresser, a nail salon and a cosmetic clinic.
