Rooftop Bar in Bangkok Sukhumvit โ
Tichuca rooftop bar is a high-rise venue in Bangkok, and since its opening, it has been a big success among the many rooftop bars in Bangkok. The attractive and unusual design spreading over several floors is beautiful and is intensely shared on social media. Tichuca is packed daily with a young hi-so clientele who would never miss the opportunity to fulfil their passion for a new selfie background. Get ready to witness a permanent photo shooting frenzy as you explore around!
The main rooftop bar area is on the 42nd floor, with a vast bar counter and a large illuminated decoration. The rooftop design is attractive and stretches over two zones, connected by a narrow metal open-air staircase. There is a small glass lift from one bar to the other, but it is so slow that barely anyone uses it.
Guests can sit at the bar or small tables across the wooden terrace. If the place is full and always is, you can walk up a few floors and enjoy a smaller square bar counter. This second area has no tables but a small, narrow glass counter where you can place your drinks. Surprisingly, this second terrace offers a better view and panoramic photos of Bangkok, with the long Sukhumvit BTS line stretching to Siam Paragon.
The crew is very friendly and patient, even when the place is packed most of the time. Note that reservations are not possible; itโs on a first-come, first-served basis.
How to get there?
Getting to the T-One building is easy; take the BTS Skytrain and stop at Thonglor station. The building is just 200 meters away.
Contrary to all other rooftop bars in Bangkok, Tichuca is not on the top floor of a hotel. T-One is an office building with shared workspaces (7 storeys are dedicated to WeWork). As you arrive, you are a little bit on your own as there is no real reception to welcome you as it always is in hotels. As you enter the lobby, the name โTichuca Roooftopโ is easy to spot on the right-hand side, written in light letters above a small room where the lift is waiting for you.
If you arrive at five as we did, donโt be surprised; there is already a queue, and social distancing in the elevator is impossible despite the usual stickers! People tend to fight to arrive first when they know that seats are limited. The lift only takes you to the 40th floor, where you need to switch to another one for a few more floors. People look very confused, both on the way up and down.
Where does the name Tichuca come from?
We were a bit curious, so we had to ask: โTiโ comes from the name Tijuca National Bark in Brazil, which also matches the first letter of the T-One Building. โChucaโ loosely comes from Mezcal Pechuca (Pechuga), which is associated with fun parties.
