Cooling Tower Rooftop Bar on Sukhumvit
The Cooling Tower Rooftop Bar in Bangkok is the latest venue on the ever-growing and astonishingly long list of rooftop bars in Bangkok. This new trendy place is on the 34th floor of the Carlton Hotel, just above Sukhumvit and near Asok BTS Station. The bar is cosy, with very high retractable ceilings, and guests can admire a panorama of the Bangkok skyline from the right and the front of the bar. It may not offer riverside views, but the birdview from the high floor is impressive. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the team is very friendly.
At the feet of the Carlton Hotel, the perfect straight line on the BTS sky train creates an interesting perspective for your photos, especially if you wait for the train to enter your frame. The view on the right-hand side of the bar offers an impressive skyline view of the modern buildings of Ploenchit and Siam district. At the blue hour, when the sun is down, buildings with strong architectural identities provide quite a futuristic sight.
Drinks and Food
The drink list is comprehensive and varied, and prices are quite reasonable compared to other high-end rooftops in town. To give you a range: draught beers on tap are Hoegaarden 220 baht, Leffe blond 250 baht, Deschutes Mirror Blond Pale Ale 240 baht, Rogue Batsquatch Hazy IPA 290 baht, Singha draught 150 baht, Asahi draught: 160 baht. Bottled Heineken costs 180 baht.
Cocktails start a 320 baht, shots at 200, red and white wines by the glass start at 320 baht, and excellent premium whiskies are also available: Glenfiddich 12 and 15 years old, Hibiki, Talisker and Monkey Shoulder.
A perfect sunset rooftop outing would not be complete without some tapas, and Cooling Tower has an excellent and inexpensive list for everyone to select from. We enjoyed some nachos (240 baht), Australian beef flank (290 baht) and even mussels with fries (390 baht).
